Qurbaan

"Say: Lo! my worship and my sacrifice and my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the Worlds." Al Quran 6:162

Qurban is a religious practice dating from the time of Prophet Ibrahim, who was commanded by Allah to sacrifice his son as a test of faith and obedience to Him. Prophet Ibrahim was however prevented from sacrificing the life of his son by the Angel Gibreel. Performing Qurban is therefore a demonstration of total submission to Allah, overriding personal desire and even love for one’s child.

Qurban is performed in the last month of the Islamic calendar, during the Haj season, as part of Eid Ul Adha celebrations. The animals allowed to be sacrificed for Qurban are goats, sheep, cows, buffaloes and camels. The meat from Qurban is distributed equally among the poor and needy, family members and friends, and the person offering the Qurban (from which she/he can give freely to anyone they wish to).

"Lo! We have given thee Abundance. So pray unto thy Lord, and sacrifice." Al Quran 108:1-2

The Galle Muslim Cultural Association’s (GMCA) annual Qurban campaign undertakes to not only perform the Qurban of your choice on your behalf, but also distribute the meat to the poorest and neediest families. Modern society is such that we live closed off lives without much reach to many sectors of society. GMCA will take care of the entire process for you, performing the Qurban, hygienically packaging the meat and distributing it to those who need it most.

If you would like GMCA to assist you with your Qurban, please get in touch from the form below
